Vij Eller Prastseminariets Likvaka
Viy (Spirit of Evil, or Vii; Russian: Вий) is a 1967 Soviet Gothic dark fantasy folk horror directed by Konstantin Yershov and Georgi Kropachyov. Based on the story of the same name by Nikolai Gogol. The film's screenplay was written by Yershov, Kropachyov and Aleksandr Ptushko. The film was distributed by Mosfilm, and it follows Khoma, a seminary student who, after a night of drunken revelry, encounters a witch who he accidentally kills, believing her to be a beautiful young woman. He is later tasked with praying over her corpse for three nights, during which he faces terrifying supernatural challenges, culminating in a confrontation with the demonic entity Viy.
