This Week in Britain #615: The National Theatre
Five-minute black-and-white report about the then part-built National Theatre on London's South Bank. Includes brief footage of Laurence Olivier and of the theatre's architect Denys Lasdon who explains the design. Liz Ferris as the reporter who talks to camera.
From the archive
This Week in Britain aired from 1959 to 1980 and was produced for international distribution, including in Australia and Canada. Each 5 minute episode featured a topical report. Note: ripped from a commercially released DVD. Unfortunately, I suspect uploading it to YouTube would result in a copyright strike by the BFI (as well as whoever owns the rights to the film version of Othello shown in the episode). Basically, this is a giant copyright strike just waiting to happen.
Why this is free to watch
This Week in Britain #615: The National Theatre (1970) is hosted by the Internet Archive as a public-domain or openly licensed work, which means its copyright has expired, lapsed, or was released by the rights holder. No signup, no payment and no advertising interrupts playback. Nitrate streams the file directly from the Archive and hosts no video itself.
