''Four Star Playhouse''

195326m480p

Ronald Colman stars in this episode of the popular anthology series. This episode is shot on a single set with most of it consisting of a single character, yet it is still entertaining. Scheduling notes: This was a CBS series, and on most CBS affiliates aired on 26 March 1953 at 8:30PM. For example, in Philadelphia, it aired on WCAU, aired against "Treasury Men in Action" on WPTZ and "Chance of a Lifetime" on WFIL-TV. After the episode aired they had a choice of staying on the same station and watching "Biff Baker, USA" at 9:00PM, or switching channels to "Dragnet" on WPTZ or some thing called "Television time" on WFIL-TV In the same city it was repeated on 10 September 1959 on the same station, aired against "Young Doctor Malone" on WPTZ and "Beat the Clock" on WFIL-TV. In Buffalo, however, this episode aired 7 April 1953 in a city with a single station only. Aired at 10:30PM, it was preceded by "Two for the Money" and followed by news. By comparison, New York City viewers (who saw it on the usual 26 March 1953 date) had a choice between watching this on WCBS, or watching "Treasury Men in Action" on WNBT, "Broadway to Hollywood" on WABD, "Chance of a Lifetime" on WABC, a film ("New Orleans") on WPIX and a film ("The Adventures of Jane") on WATV. Wow, six programs to choose from, one of which has no surviving episodes ("Broadway to Hollywood") and another is incomplete in the archives ("Chance of a Lifetime"). Sydney Australia viewers weren't as unlucky as those in Buffalo USA. Sydney viewers saw this episode on 9 July 1958 on TCN-9 at 8:30PM, aired against "Dr. Hudson's Secret Journal" on ATN-7 and "At Home with a Photographer" on ABN-2. Meanwhile, Melbourne Australia viewers saw it on 16 July 1958 at 8:30PM on HSV-7, aired against "Faraway Look" on ABV-2 and "Harbor Command" on GTV-9. After this episode aired, they had a choice of staying on the same station and watching local talent show "Stairway to the Stars" at 9:00PM, or switching channels to "Fabian of the Yard" on ABV-2 or "Susie" on GTV-9.
