The Hunchback of Notre Dame
In 15th century France, a gypsy girl is framed for murder by the infatuated Chief Justice, and only the deformed bellringer of Notre Dame Cathedral can save her.
From the archive
I've been researching newly public domain films from 1929 and earlier, so I'm uploading the best possible copies that I can find. Universal Pictures biggest silent hit, The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a drama/tragedy that follows Lon Chaney's hideous but gentle Quasimodo. While this is frequently thought of as one of the best films of 1923, it is now mostly remembered for its colossal and gorgeous sets, and for Mr. Chaney's performance.
Why this is free to watch
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) is hosted by the Internet Archive as a public-domain or openly licensed work, which means its copyright has expired, lapsed, or was released by the rights holder. The uploader declared an explicit licence, linked in the source panel. Nitrate streams the file directly from the Archive and hosts no video itself.
