The great King of Dacia, Decebal (Decebalus), is disposed to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to keep the integrity of his people. His own son, Cotyso, is given to the god Zamolxis to the dismay of the King and his daughter Meda. Septimius Severus, a young Roman devoted to his adopted country, must make the choice between his blood origins and the culture he was introduced to.

The Dacians (Dacii) is a historical drama set during the lead-up to Domitian's Dacian War. The film follows the conflict between the Roman Empire and the Dacians, highlighting themes of betrayal, patriotism, and the struggle for freedom as the Dacians resist Roman invasion while dealing with internal intrigues among Roman leaders. The film was directed by Romanian director Sergiu Nicolaescu. It was released on 31 May 1967 in France. It was entered into the 5th Moscow International Film Festival. In Romania the film was immensely successful, and it remains one of the most watched films of all time in the country.
