The Criminal Code
After young Robert Graham commits a murder while drunk and defending his girlfriend, he is prosecuted by ambitious Mark Brady and sentenced to 10 years. Six years later, Brady becomes the prison warden and offers the beleaguered Robert a job as his chauffeur. Robert cleans up his act, but, on the eve of his pardon, his cellmate drags him back into the world of violence, and he faces a difficult choice that could return him to prison.

The Criminal Code is a 1931 American pre-Code romantic crime drama film directed by Howard Hawks and starring Walter Huston and Phillips Holmes. The screenplay, based on a 1929 play of the same name by Martin Flavin. It follows Robert Graham, a young man sentenced to ten years in prison for manslaughter after defending his girlfriend in a bar fight. Six years later, the district attorney who prosecuted him becomes the prison warden, offering Graham a chance at redemption, but he faces challenges from fellow inmates and must navigate the prison's code of silence.
