The 1934 film adaptation of "The Count of Monte Cristo," directed by Rowland V. Lee, is one of the earlier cinematic takes on Alexandre Dumas's classic novel.The film follows Edmond Dantès, played by Robert Donat, who is falsely imprisoned due to the deceit of his envious peers. After years of suffering in the Château d'If, he escapes and seeks vengeance against those who betrayed him, using the fortune he discovers on the Isle of Monte Cristo.
