The Viking
In this historical adventure based on traditional legend concerning Leif Ericsson and the first Viking settlers to reach North America by sea, Norse half-brothers vie for a throne and for the same woman.
From the archive
I've been researching newly public domain films from 1929 and earlier, so I'm uploading the best possible copies that I can find. The first full length Technicolor film that included a musical soundtrack, The Viking wasn't content to be only a technical exhibition. This big budget spectacle unfortunately came out a little too late to be fully appreciated, as audiences were already enthralled by the introduction of films with talking and singing.
Why this is free to watch
The Viking (1928) is hosted by the Internet Archive as a public-domain or openly licensed work, which means its copyright has expired, lapsed, or was released by the rights holder. The uploader declared an explicit licence, linked in the source panel. Nitrate streams the file directly from the Archive and hosts no video itself.
