The Scarlet Lady
The film follows Lya, a woman seeking refuge from Cossack soldiers, who finds herself at the palace of Prince Nicholas. She becomes his majordomo and they fall in love, but their relationship is disrupted when Nicholas learns of her past with a Bolshevik leader. Lya is expelled, becomes a terrorist, and later encounters Nicholas again, now disguised as a servant. When Nicholas is sentenced to death, she rescues him and they escape together.
From the archive
I've been researching newly public domain films from 1929 and earlier, so I'm uploading the best possible copies that I can find. this once-lost film is the first synchronized sound film ever released by Columbia Pictures. It follows a Russian revolutionary who works for a Russian prince. Her and the prince eventually fall in love, however, just as the Russian Civil War is reaching its climax. This was star Lya De Putti's final American film before her death.
