Four children discover a strange egg hidden in an old carpet from which hatches a talking phoenix. Further adventures are had when the carpet turns out to be magic. The Phoenix and the Carpet is a 1976 BBC TV series based on Edith Nesbit's novel of the same name. The story follows four children who discover a magical phoenix and a magic carpet within a second-hand rug they purchased. The series features their adventures as the phoenix grants their wishes and the carpet transports them to various locations. It is part of a trilogy of novels that includes "Five Children and It" and "The Story of the Amulet".
