The Letter
A plantation owner's wife goes on trial for shooting a man she says attacked her, but a handwritten letter reveals otherwise.
From the archive
I've been researching newly public domain films from 1929 and earlier, so I'm uploading the best possible copies that I can find. One of her last films before her untimely death, Jeanne Eagels gives a passionate performance in 1929's The Letter. For her role, she was the first performer to be nominated for an Academy Award after death. This is one of her few sound films that is not considered lost.
