The House on Trubnaya
Life is short and full of oppression, but that doesn't mean Parasha can't find love and laughter when she leaves her country home to take a job as a maid in the overcrowded, overworked, and underpaid world in the big city.
From the archive
I've been researching newly public domain films from 1929 and earlier, so I'm uploading the best possible copies that I can find. This Russian comedy follows a country housekeeper who ends up in over her head when she is elected deputy of city administration. The film is beloved to film buffs in Russia, and modern American viewers find it quite charming as well. I've included an English subtitle track as well, although that will only show in media players.
Why this is free to watch
The House on Trubnaya (1928) is hosted by the Internet Archive as a public-domain or openly licensed work, which means its copyright has expired, lapsed, or was released by the rights holder. The uploader declared an explicit licence, linked in the source panel. Nitrate streams the file directly from the Archive and hosts no video itself.
