Aug 17 68
New AB clip — Aug 17 1968 American Bandstand 1st music segment of the show with a throwback pick for the 11th anniversary special — 1963's Surf City by Jan & Dean. Plus more throwback footage from the special Anniversary episode, 1957 footage of dance for Elvis's"Blue Christmas". Cool to see what was happening in '68. looking back to the late 50s & early 60s. From Song facts: "Jan & Dean were ambassadors of the California culture in the mid-60s, scoring 11 Top-40 hits from 1963-1965, mostly dealing with surfing, girls and cars. Young people who weren't from California certainly wanted to be there after hearing this song about heading to the beach, and many of them did.. Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys wrote this song in collaboration with Jan Berry from Jan & Dean.. When this song went to Jan & Dean, Murry Wilson, who was Brian's father and the group's manager, was furious, as he thought it should be a Beach Boys song. Undeterred, the groups continued working together." PLUS some sweet images from the video uploaded below.
