Sarah Becker, an unhappy young girl, is sent to her Aunt Claudia's house for the summer. Determined to earn some money, ten-year-old Sarah gets a summer job at a shoeshine stand where her boss Al teaches her some important lessons: to work hard, to say thank you, and to appreciate the little things in life.
