5 March 1975 Director: Alan Parker Screenplay: Jack Rosenthal Maureen Lipman Gary Carp Steven Serember As the Nazis bomb England in 1940, Jewish woman Sarah (Maureen Lipman) sends her two sons, Danny (Gary Carp) and Neville (Steven Serember), to the countryside in hopes that they will be safer there. After leaving the city, the boys are paired with an aging couple who often punish them by withholding their meals and the letters Sarah writes them. As Danny and Neville face an increasingly abusive situation, they fight the urge to worry their struggling mother by informing her of their plight.
