Das Boot is a 1981 West German war film written and directed by Wolfgang Petersen, produced by Günter Rohrbach, and starring Jürgen Prochnow, Herbert Grönemeyer and Klaus Wennemann. It follows the crew of the German submarine U-96 during World War II as they embark on a perilous patrol in the Atlantic. The film explores their experiences of intense battles, claustrophobic living conditions, and the psychological toll of war, highlighting both the excitement of combat and the tedium of life aboard a U-boat.
