This documentary from American Movie Classics features a collection of early film clips between 1896 and arond 1920 that explains how early cinema was censored at a time long before alphanumeric rating systems or the Hays Code through controlling excessive violence or various adult situations, especially concerning immigrants and children as a means to control various crimes. Various methods of censorship, from police squads, gambling, public opinion, and race relations are discussed. Oliver Stone and William Baldwin are your narrators.
