Blind Husbands
An Austrian military officer and rogue attempts to seduce the wife of a surgeon. The two men confront each other in a test of abilities that ends surprisingly.
From the archive
I've been researching newly public domain films from 1929 and earlier, so I'm uploading the best possible copies that I can find. The first film directed by Erich von Stroheim, Blind Husbands was a massive critical and commercial hit, providing clout for his films for many years. In it, an Austrian soldier attempts to seduce an attention-deprived wife while distracting her husband with other affairs. I have uploaded the German-intertitled film, as this version has extra footage that the US version does not. I have also included an English subtitle track to the file.
Why this is free to watch
Blind Husbands (1919) is hosted by the Internet Archive as a public-domain or openly licensed work, which means its copyright has expired, lapsed, or was released by the rights holder. The uploader declared an explicit licence, linked in the source panel. Nitrate streams the file directly from the Internet Archive and hosts no video itself.
