The New Andy Griffith Show was a failed attempt to return Andy Griffith to the realm of comedy following his poor reception for his lead in the drama The Headmaster. This series lasted just 12 episodes in early 1971. The series opener finds Andy moving from Mayberry to Greenwood so that he can meet with the mayor to start a new business.
