The General Line
Also known as The Old and the New, The General Line illustrates Lenin’s stated imperative that the nation move from agrarian to industrial culture in an epic ode to farm-collectivization progress.
From the archive
This is the same "The General Line" that appears elsewhere on the archive but I have added English inter titles which make it much more accessible. Directed by Sergei Eisenstein and released in 1929, while not one of Eisenstein's best films (it was recut for political reasons and later resored).) it is a lovely portrait of Russian peasant life during the transition from human to mechanized labor.
Why this is free to watch
The General Line (1929) is hosted by the Internet Archive as a public-domain or openly licensed work, which means its copyright has expired, lapsed, or was released by the rights holder. The uploader declared an explicit licence, linked in the source panel. Nitrate streams the file directly from the Archive and hosts no video itself.
