Classic tv. Part of the Singer Playhouse series which starred David Niven, Dick Powell, Charles Boyer and Ida Lupino. Classic 1950's t.v. series episode, "family oriented", features Niven as "The Deacon" a playwright who has spent many years researching "the play of the ages". Synopsis: A downhearted Hollywood actor, fed up with his life, returns to his uncle's bar after many years. There he encounters "The Deacon" who, although poor, seems contented with life, his sole ambition to finish his play. Although he speaks of it constantly, he has never revealed the contents. This time, he divulges the play to the actor and the rest of the bar patrons. This episode is a "play within a play". Niven as "The Deacon" wonderfully enacts his play in this Singer Playhouse episode.
