One Hour with You

19321h 20m6.5(84)480p

Andre and Colette Bertier are happily married. When Colette introduces her husband to her flirtatious best friend, Mitzi, he does his best to resist her advances. But she is persistent, and very cute, and he succumbs. Mitzi's husband wants to divorce her, and has been having her tailed. Andre gets caught, and must confess to his wife. But Colette has had problems resisting the attentions of another man herself, and they forgive each other.

From the archive

This is an RF rip of the Laserdisc version of Ernst Lubitsch’s One Hour With You that was requested. This version was restored by UCLA’s Film, Television and Radio archive and was only ever released as part of the box set called The Lutbitsch Touch. It is noteworthy because it is the only release of the movie to feature the color tints that would have appeared at the release of the movie. It is theoretically possible to use this encode along with the Blu-ray to create a custom edit that would match how the film looked at release at a much higher fidelity by tone-matching in VapourSynth. Methodology: Capture was done using a Domesday Duplicator and a Pioneer CLDV2800. I will also note that while the Bluray version is a beautiful scan, the audio on that version appears to be severely clipped. The laserdisc features both EFM digital audio as well as PCM audio. The track included is mostly the EFM with some very brief snippets to cover dropouts in the digital track. This was done in DaVinci Resolve. The track was downmixed to mono (from 2.0 mono) using eac3to. I can provide those files to anyone who wishes to do a repack of the Bluray, although it is worth noting that the 1080p edit has a different duration owing to two factors: a slightly longer shot at 37:32:20 where a butler opens a pair of sliding french doors and an extended version of the theme on the laserdisc version following the credits. Encoding was done entirely in Vapoursynth, and I have erred on the side of a more transparent encode for this. IVTC was done with VIVTC. Both sides of the laserdisc were encoded in the same script instead of being concated after the fact. If anyone needs an archival rip of an untransferred tape or Laserdisc, I would be happy to be that beast of burden for the community.
