''Four Star Playhouse''
Half-hour anthology series from the 1950s. Drama about a sea captain on his last voyage. This episode stars the great Charles Boyer, with the supporting cast consisting mainly of prolific character actors (several of which have over 200 credits on IMDb). This episode was originally telecast on 23 April 1953 on CBS at 8:30PM, and aired against "Treasury Men in Action" on NBC, "Broadway to Hollywood" on DuMont, and "Chance of a Lifetime" on ABC. It was preceded by "Life with Luigi" (a very unpopular show) and followed by "Lux Video Theatre". Newspaper Brooklyn Eagle called this episode "outstanding dramatic fare" and considered it to be well-produced. This episode won an award from the Screen Writers Guild. However, I found a syndicated article (possibly from New York Herald Tribune?) which said "The Last Voyage is not great drama; it is just darned good melodrama" and said that Hollywood produced shows were inferior to New York ones.
