Having been a producer on Ryan's Hope, Behr was familiar with All My Children, having been an associate producer from 1970 to 1975. Among the stories featured was a baby story line involving the characters of Adam, Brooke, Tad, and Dixie (Cady McClain). By this time, the show had also found a "hit couple" in Cecily and Nico (portrayed by Rosa Nevin and Maurice Benard), but Behr was unable to convince either to remain with the show, and the duo left at the end of 1989. ABC was pleased with Behr; Nixon was as well, and decided her creation was safe in the hands of the new producer. Behr, however, made the unpopular decision to fire Peter Bergman (Cliff Warner) during this time, as well as Ellen Wheeler (Karen) and Robert Gentry (Ross Chandler). Bergman's departure was particularly frustrating to Debbi Morgan (who thought it was a cop-out by ABC on the promising interracial Angie/Cliff pairing; Morgan later defected to the new NBC soap opera Generations in protest), Taylor Miller (who was misled when Behr approached her to bring back her character Nina - Miller was frustrated to find out she had only been brought back for two weeks to facilitate Bergman's departure. Cliff & Nina reunited, married yet again, and left Pine Valley, leaving Miller to lament to Soap Opera Digest that she felt it was going backward for both characters (and emotionally difficult to play), her and Bergman himself. Behr then brought back fan favourite, Opal Gardner, but instead of contacting Emmy winner Dorothy Lyman to reprise the role, Behr hired Jill Larson. Lyman later noted her disappointment in never being contacted about reprising the role. (Source: Wikipedia) ** Color Picture (B/W during poor weather conditions) ** Stereo/Mono - The 'earlier' AMC years, were recorded many, many years prior to digital television - so, all sound and audio quality of the video recordings, was entirely dependent on the current weather condition. If the weather was stormy, at time of videotape recording, that weather was reflected in the quality of the recording. ** I will, at this time send a huge ''thank you'' to the person (or persons) who took the time to record the episodes as they played; more likely than not, they were preserved for private use ..... never knowing that the option would be made available, to share those recordings, for people around the world. If I had a Nickel for all of the times I have given thanks for the VCRs used at that time, to record these programs, I'd be a very wealthy person! I also now give thanks to the person who, many years ago, took the time to upload the following All My Children Synopsis, as well as for all of those written that I have used in past issues and ones that I will use in the future AMC years I upload. Thank you to each of the above! ** SYNOPSIS: Jan to Dec 1989 ** With Nina out of his life, Cliff was drawn to Angie, herself still grieving from the untimely loss of her beloved Jesse. Cliff and Angie got engaged. While they planned the wedding, Nina returned to town. It was not Nina's intention to break up Cliff and Angie, but Cliff and Nina soon discovered what they always suspected - Michael was Cliff's, not Matt's son. The ordeal shattered Nina's marriage to Matt, but it did have a greater purpose. It brought the former sweethearts together again. In a heartfelt moment, Nina admitted to Angie that she still loved Cliff. In a beautiful garden ceremony held at Cortlandt Manor, Cliff and Nina remarried for the fourth - and seemingly final time - and left to start a new life in Denver. Not only did Palmer lose his daughter again, but after the wedding, Daisy turned down his proposal of marriage and left for France. Adam married Brooke, but their marriage suffered when she was unable to give him the son he so desperately wanted. In 1989, Dixie left Cortlandt Manor and went to work for Palmer's hated neighbor, Adam Chandler. Dixie was hired as the nanny for Laura, Adam's wife Brooke's daughter. When Laura was killed by a drunk driver, Dixie stayed on as a servant in Adam and Brooke's employ. Like Brooke, Dixie was beautiful. Unlike Brooke, she was fertile. Adam swept hopelessly love struck Dixie Cooney off her feet, and slept with her in the Chandler boathouse. Dixie became pregnant and Adam secretly plotted to adopt her baby when it was born - without Brooke ever knowing it was his. When her baby boy was born, Dixie refused to give him up. Realizing Adam's deceit, Brooke packed her bags and divorced him. Scrambling to secure his legacy, Adam persuaded Dixie to marry him. One person, Tad Martin, refused to accept Adam's actions at face value. Tad saved the day when he realized that Adam was gas-lighting Dixie. He helped Dixie escape from the hospital, and they married. In February 1989, Cindy Chandler lost her valiant fight with AIDS. In the week's before her death, Cindy reconciled with her twin sister, Karen, who was as wild and irresponsible as Cindy was sweet and sincere. Karen Parker's stay in Pine Valley was short. In August, she kidnapped Dixie and Adam's baby, and with the million-dollar ransom in her hand, she was nabbed by Tad as she tried to flee the country. Having lost much of his memory, Travis alienated himself from Erica and took up with his former wife Barbara. Discovering he had a life-threatening brain tumor, Travis left town to have an operation, lying to his loved ones that he was having a mid-life crisis. What Travis didn't know at the time was that Barbara was pregnant with his child. Tom, feeling sorry for Barbara, offered to marry her. Midway through their wedding ceremony, she went into labor and gave birth to an angelic little girl, Molly. When Nico and Julie's marriage crumbled, Julie left for Washington, and, out of the blue, Nico married Cecily, who had turned to Nico after discovering her mother's affair with Sean Cudahy. Before long, this marriage of convenience became one of love. Realizing they were made for each other, Nico and Cecily flew to Hawaii for a romantic second wedding, then departed Pine Valley. Jeremy's newfound son, David Rampal, discovered the allure of love when he met Palmer's sweet and naive niece, Melanie. However, when his mother Marissa died, David bitterly turned away from Lanie. Seeking comfort, Lanie found a sympathetic ear in Trask Bodine, a handsome, but poor, student she tutored at Pine Valley University. Erica discovered that a circus clown, Barney, was her not-so-late father. After an emotional reunion, Eric explained that he had faked his death for financial reasons. Erica welcomed "daddy" back into her life, her home, and her company, giving him a five percent share of Enchantment. But Eric sold the stock to her worst enemy, Natalie Hunter, betraying her before he walked out again. By now, Erica had embarked upon a new romantic relationship. Who was the object of her affections? Travis's brother, Jack. Jeremy's friend and fellow mercenary, Trevor Dillon, settled in Pine Valley as a police detective and began to actively pursue Natalie. Capping a year that marked his record-breaking estrangement from not one, but two wives, Adam lost his fortune and suffered a massive stroke. ** I have received neither financial gain, nor gain of any other sort, for the uploads I make, nor will I receive anything for my future uploads. Every upload I have or will make, is done purely for educational purposes and for the entertainment and enjoyment of all present and future viewers. Some things are priceless, therefore can neither be bought, nor sold.** Respectfully yours, Doreen (def gp ddh) Public Domain Mark 1.0
